Understanding and addressing ethnic health inequalities and accessibility in Wokingham Borough: a focus on South Asian women

Updated: Nov 11

The South Asian population are 2-4x more likely to develop type 2 diabetes, and South Asian women have one of the lowest cervical screening (aka smear tests) uptake rates amongst the general UK population.

We want to better understand the experience of South Asian women when accessing key healthcare information and services such as GPs and hospital appointments.

We want to understand what works well, what areas should be improved, and what barriers they face.

Off the back of our joint GP access project last year (report soon to be published), we identified a lack of response from ethnically diverse communities.

We consider it important to reach out to the communities we hear from less frequently to gather their feedback and make sure their voice is heard which is why we are reaching out to these communities directly.

Please complete our survey by clicking the link below, and share the survey or this news article with family and friends.

The more responses we gather, the better we can help to improve services for the community across the borough.

We are also looking for women from the South Asian community who would be happy to help us further by participating in face-to-face discussions with us so that we can hear more about your healthcare experiences.

All feedback will remain anonymous and will be used to help improve local healthcare services. Interested? Please get in touch with us at enquiries@healthwatchwokingham.co.uk
